Dreaming and permission
When dreaming runs, what it does quietly, what it brings to you and why it needs permission for your vaults.
What it is for
Dreaming tidies up your knowledge while you work and overnight. It handles small corrections quietly and brings the big decisions to you.
This page explains when dreaming runs, what it may do and how to undo any change.
How to do it

Check your plan
Dreaming is included in Team and Business. It starts on its own as soon as your workspace has one of these plans. An admin can switch it off for the workspace.

Grant access
Your notes are stored encrypted. For dreaming to read them, you authorise each vault: for 7 days, 30 days or until you revoke it. When you create a workspace on Team or Business, Kepos grants access for your first two vaults right away, until revoked. If it is missing, Kepos asks you for it.

Open the report
“Dreams” in the sidebar opens the report. At the top you see whether dreaming is active, how many vaults are authorised and how much credit is left. If something is not running, the status line names the reason and the next step.

Review the balance
The weekly balance lists what dreaming did quietly, with one example per line. As long as nobody has edited the note since, “Undo” reverts a single change.

Decide
Merging notes, turning sketches into notes and tidying up old material: these suggestions wait for you in the report. Accept, edit or discard them.
What Kepos does in the background
Dreaming checks changed notes about a minute after the change and again at night, at 3 am by default. When a lot changes at once, the nightly run picks up the rest. Dreaming takes up the same note at most every 20 hours, and not at all while a suggestion about it is waiting for you. Quietly it does three things: add links, repair dead links and fix metadata. Each of these changes is its own version in the note’s history.
For the permission, the server keeps a sealed copy of the vault key. One member authorising a vault is enough. Once every member has revoked their permission, dreaming no longer reads the vault.
Dreaming uses AI credit from your plan, with a monthly allowance per seat. When it runs out, dreaming pauses until the next period, and the status line says so.
Common questions
Why does the report say access is missing although we are on Team?
The vault is encrypted and nobody has authorised it yet. Tap “Grant access” in the report. One member of the vault doing so is enough.
Where do I revoke access?
Under “Me” → “Vaults & Dreams”. It lists every permission you granted, and you revoke them one by one.
Does dreaming change notes written by my AI assistant?
No. Kepos checks and links those notes as soon as they are created. After that, dreaming leaves them alone.
